On Saturday night Mr. and Airs. AV. J. Alclldowie invited a number of friends ,at a most enjoyable dance at “Totangi,” Nagtapa, in honor of Aliss Bona Moore, of Nelson. The drawingroom which was used for dancing was most charmingly decorated with delicate sprays of cherry blossom, white Iceland poppies shading""‘from cream to deep orange added colorful charm to the supper table in the diningroom. The wide verandahs, softly illuminated with quaintly shaped Chinese lantern,were arranged with couches and’ easy chairs for sitting out. Gay and popular music was supplied by Mrs. Thomson, *■ delightful extras Being" played by Miss L' O’Alcnra. The hostess pvns weiiring a georgette frock in a lovely shade of red. an orange and red Spanish shawl adding an effective finish. The guest of honor chose a charming little French frock of jade green georgette, and gold lace. ’ \Mrs. Ewen Alclldowie was attractively frocked in black lace caught at the waist with a large scarlet rose. • Airs. MISS MQiiiA- MARTIN-’?!- : . BREAK-B ROn' Friday night )asL -the A ssembly Hall presented a very 'pretty appearance, the' occasion being Miss Martin’s final dance this season. Canopies of colorful streamers, softhued lighting and clusters of feathery Jam boo made an artistic setting for. the dancers' fn their charming frocks. Lighton’s orchestra occupied the dais and a delicious supper arid refreshing claret cup contributed' greatly to the enjoyment of the guests; Miss Martin received in a dainty gown of cyclamen shot tissue and, georgette, and Mrs. J. *7. Martin chaperoned in a graceful black gown. . Buring the evening Miss Martin and Mr. Sodden Edwards, demonstrated several of, the new dances, ■including the Yale Blues. the new foxtrot and the Heebie J chics, the latter dance evoking much applause. Miss Martin leaves for Auckland shortly where she will take a special course of lessons from Miss Margaret O’Connor. one, of the foremost teachers of dancing in New Zealand. .During the evening some delightful", extras were contributed, by Messrs Stuart Sheet and 0. JUNIOR* DANCING CLASSFS BREAK-UP

Last Satnrdav afternoon, the grounds around the residence of Mrs W. Paltridge, “Wairua”. Vogel St., presented a. gav scene when Miss Ethno Paltridge, the well-known dancing teacher, entertained her junior pupils and their friends at a garden party. The scene presented a charming* picture and passers-by must have likened it to Fairyland. The various pretty frocks worn by the children blended wonderfully with the green lawns and . pretty flowering shrubs. The children, who numbered 140, spent a very happy time, with games and competitions, for which they received unique and handsome prizes. They also revelled ini ice-creams, fruit salad, lollhsoramhJes and a dainty afternoon tea.

.Miss Paltridge-took this opportunity of presenting special junior class prizes for the year, which fell to Joan Mellor. the most advanced pupil, Phyllis Brooker, Jill and Peggy Range, Yvonne Bradley, steady work and good conduct, Margaret Martin, for the most improVeme'nt. during the year. All the new shapes are fea- j fcured and the straws and other materials are of beautiful quality. There are dainty white or cream hats of slightly poke bonnet type, so becoming to a chubby face, and there are graceful hats with waved brims and streamers of ribbon. Some lacy looking straws and crins for state, occasions have dainty • flower trimmings, and there is the loveliest line of infant’s headgear in town.
