OBSERVANCE IN, GISBORNE,
SCHOOL CHILDREN’S COMPETJ- , ' - TIONS.
Excellent work was turned out by secondary, and primary school pupils who -participated 'in- the essay writing and drawing competitions promoted by the -Gisborne, branch of the. Navy League in connection with Nelson* Day. The-, prizewinners were 5 .announced yesterday, which was cel-, ebrated locally, as Nelson Day, Oct;: '2l, •. which fell on Sunday. .A large crowd of school . children, meinbera of the Gisborne branch' of the Navy League, were entertained in the Ma-jes-tio Theatre. Appropriate addresses given were given ; Mr J. BKells, who presided, and the Rev. Jas. Aitken, who presented the prizes, and later pictures were screened. The judges, were: Messrs L. T. Burnard, J. Kinder. Ib W. Wilkes, J. H. Bull, F. J. Rowley, and Inspectors Mcllraith and W. McCas-l-all. ■ ' Winners of the competitions were: —Secondary Schopls.— Essay writing: Form V.—Roy Lowndes; R.
