WAIKOHU BOXING ASSOCIATION
REVIVED WITH ENTHUSIASM
A large and very enthusiastic meeting of the Waikohu Boxing Association was held in the *Public Library, oT Ivaraka, on Thursday evening for the purpose of reviving boxing in that district. Mr. Sherratt was elected chairman. It is considered that there is plenty of good talent available to stage a first-class tournament. A strong committee was then formed, and it was decided to hold an amateur boxing tournament on Thursday, November 22. A match committee comprising Messrs. Sherratt, Harker and Rickard, with the assistance of Mr. Bardwell, was formed for the purpose of drawing up a programme. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, K. S’. Williams, Esq., *M.P.; president. T. Sherratt, Esq.; vice-presidents, Messrs G Hohlvvroith, A.. A. Fraser, 1 T. B. Spence, J. Gregory, E. J. Krause, J. Atkins H. Stevens, It. Scott, R„ D. Dymock, A. Stoneluun, R. Fisken, L. Spence, K. Nasmith, F. Tolerton, and G. Clarke; committee, T. Shexratt, Esq. (chairman), and Messrs. J. Moore, D. Manuel, T‘. M. Askew, A. E. Buckingham, A. Nicholson, W. To endeavor to cause keen interest in boxing, the charges for admission were lowered so as to give everyone a chance to be present, viz., ringside ss, rest of hall 3s, As this was the first meeting of the association since the death of Mr. H. Jackson, Mr. Sherratt mentioned the passing away of one who had been of great assistance to the association and all sport in the district, members standing in silence out of -respect to their late president. NOTES AND NEWS. Johnny Risko, Cleveland (U.S'.A.) heavyweight, who recently beat Geo. Godfrey, negro giant, in a 10-round bout, at New York, and a few; weeks later beat Johnny Squires, of. South Africa, in another 10-rounder, is a baker by trade. He finds that theire is-more “dough” to be made in the ring.
