NEW YORK, Oct. 19
At San Quentin prison. California, William Hickman was hanged for the murder of Marion Parker. He walked calmly to the gallows apparently quite self-possessed, before over 200 witnesses. The- young murderer, prior to his execution, spent a considerable part of the night talking to his guards. Ho related the story of his life. He said he had killed the girl for greed because he wanted the ransom, adding “If they should not hang me, then they should never hang another man. My crime was one of the most gruesome in history.” He slept little on the final night, spending his time playing a giamophopo when not talking to the guards. Hickman embraced religion following conviction.
Hickman, a young student, was convicted) of kidnapping and murdering Marion Parker, daughter of a Los Angeles banker, the girl’s body having been terribly mutilated when a ransom was.refused. A plea of insanity 'failed, as did also several appeals since his sentence in January last. BRAIN UNUSUALLY LARGE. United Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright '(Australian Press Association.)
