AMBULANCE NOT SUCCESSFUL

The policy of the Health Department in the matter of dental clinics for the country and the reason for the withdrawal of the dental ambulance winch operated for a time in the Auckland district are given in * a statement issued by- the ' Department to-day. ’ • - v- -
“The ambulance was not found to be satisfactory,” say s the department. “During certain times of ihe year the roads in the north of Auckland were impassable. Also the ambulance did hot, make for the'greatest efficiency and certainly "was- neteconomical The dental officer who was'in charge of‘it- is now 'treating children further afield in the out-ly-ing districts ana treating mope schools than when he was using the dental ambulance.
‘ ‘The policy of the Department is not only to establish dental clinics in - the t-owns, but to place them in country districts as, bases from which sub-bases are attached where children from further outlying districts, are brought for treatment. ‘ Many of these ha,ye been established andthousands of country children, throughout the Dominion, are being treated. - ’
“It must not be forgotten, how, ever, that- the service, is still in its in fancy and. is being built up as. fast, as circumstances will permit.. Time must elapse, before all the children in the Dominion can be brought under treatment.”
