A locomotive designed to burn belli oil and coal, built by the firm of Kitson,, at Leeds, is being subjected to tests’ on the London and North-East-ern Railway at Darlington. Tiie .engine is stated to bo capable of high speeds, and of reduced fuel costs by 60 per cent. Mr. Kit-son Clark, managing director of the firm states that the principle of the internal combustion _ engine applicable to railway engines i,s being tried out. The' engine volred has pulled a train up to -160 tons. “If tha experiments .are completely successful,” he adds, “ shall witness the greatest . revolution in locomotive traction since Stephenson invented the first steam engine.” r - . --
