RUGBY.

MINOR ASSOCIATIONS’ TRIAL.

PRAISE FOR P. 13. PLAYERS

The North owed a lot of their 39 points to Langlands from Poverty Ray. a. five-eighths who should obtain his New Zealand colors against New South Wales, says a Manawatu journal. He was to have been partnered by Jimmy Mill l —q combination which would undoubtedly have wreaked further havoc among the South defences —but owing to the defection of the ex-All Black, found himself with Meyer, from North Auckland. Langlands played great football both 011 attack and defence. He showed a lightning appreciation of liis opportunities, employing tho cut-in judiciously and to advantage. Another sound back was the North Island half, Bramwill, of Poverty Bay, who was responsible for intuiting the great majority of the attacks. Swift and unorthodox in his methods, lie paralysed the unfortunate Kent with his" lightning thrusts from the scrum side. Another nominee . the North Island selectors must consider. The North forwards did what was required of them in the first spell and got the predominating share of the ball for their backs. They, had a good pair of hookers in V. Thomas (Poverty Bay), and Leach (East Coast),' the "former, .who registered two crossings, being in addition the leader of the pack. Thomas is a fast following forward, .well built and handy with the swinging boot. With all these qualifications he should go near the N.Z. team.

(Since the above was written, Langlands and Bramwell have been chosen in the team to represent- the North Island against- the South Island at Christchurch next Saturday)
