Dr. AY. C. Poole, president of the World’s Sunday Schools Association and minister of Christ Church. London, will h e paying a short visit- to Gisborne early next month when lie will deliver a- public lecture. Dr; Poole is a brother of Mr. H. Poole, of Gisborne. Lord Buckland was killed while riding in the grounds of his residence near Brecon, states a British Official Wireless message from London. He was a brother of Sir William Berry and Sir Comer Berry, who are big industrialists and newspaper owners.

The Hon. A. D. McLeod. Minister of Lands, was at Stratford yesterday, where he visited Mountain House and conferred with the Reform Party delegates from the district. The Minister received a deputation from the Egmont National Park Board, asking for a grant to metal the road to the mountain house, and gave- a sympathetic reply. Mrs. Meadowcroft. who was injured in the motoring mishap on Wharerata Hill, had the comfort of the presence of her daughter. YLrs. Johnson, of Masterton, .aid her son. Mr. Jack Meadowcroft, of Khandallah, as. well as that of another daughter, Mrs. £? Tubbs, of Wellington. Mr. Meadowcroft is practically well, and Mrs. Meadowcroft is slowly improving.

The sudden death occurred in Carterton on Wednesday afternoon of Mr. William Arthur Kitchen, aged 65 years. The deceased was a resident, of Carterton for 35 years, for most.'of which he was manager of the.Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association’s drapery department;- He was a Justice of the Peace and took an active interest in all matters for the welfare of the town.
