CRICKET
ENGLAND IN AUSTRALIA
NEXT -SEASON'S FIXTURES
LENGTHY LIS-T
According to a cable a few days ago. it- lias now been found necessary to cancel tlie first match on the provisional programme of the M.Ci.C. torn of-Australia next season. Ths fixture was against the West Australian cods and was distinctly of a holiday nature', so that little has been lost through the delayed departure of the English team. The proposed itinerary, therefore, now is as follows: —- October 17. to 20 (1028) —v. M esteri Australia, at Perth. October 2-3 to 30—v. South Australia, at Adelaide. The Queensland Cricket Association is said to be negotiating for the services of Frank Woolley, the Kent professional, and test match player, as coach for next season. A leading South Australian, who responded to n/pipvioii.y advertisement for a coach, is still probably available, but Queensland is not keen •on reducing the strength of that State, with its .limited number of players. Woolley is still young enough to be a valuable asset”to Queensland. ' With this season’s pliiy., Vernon Rams ford has completed 25 years’ service with the Melbourne first eleven, having 1 'started- with them in 1902-3. ilt is a wonderful record.of service ill view of the fact that the popular left* hander had just turned 43. years of age. 'He was only 17 when, alter two games with tlie 'second eleven, lie was promoted to the firsts,, and he has a remarkable record as a rungetter, not only.for the old club, but in interstate, and international cricket’ And he looks .fit enough to give tlie club a- few more.vears’ service. He has probably tlie longest record in senior .cricket at Melbourne of any \iayipg therein at the present time
