v ‘EMPIRE SHOPPIX G WEEK’ ’ Regarding “Empire Shopping Week” Mr' E. T. Doddrell stated that this was a highly important matter and should not he left to one or two to boost, -It needed something mere than the plastering of shop windows' with posters to arouse ihcpuhlio interest. ’I his had been done last, year -and no increased business had resulted. The speaker suggested that .the. Garrison Hall might be taken for a week and some big effort he made there such as the' 1 elding of a concert, etc. There had been talk of an old settlers’ gathering and that was a step in the right direction.
Air. H. DeCosta remarked that the main thing was lo . draw the country people into town. I here was a suggestion aloot that a loothall match he. held which promised to come into actunlitv. Air. Doddrell: Well, we had better hold it in tho main street. We don’t want to take all rho people up the other end ol .the town. The speaker urgtd that as big an attendance as possible should come, to this evening's meeting. The discussion then lapsed.
UNEMPLOYMENT M ELJEF Mr G. Lawless suggested that Hip •ChamlK'i - ’ should move in the inntter of relieving unemployment. He argerl members to living forward proposals for useful relief works in this connection. If money was to hr- spent it . should ho used in profitable avenues. " The chairman considered that this was hardly a matter for the ( hamber. The secretary (MV \Y. Hamilton Irvine) stated that' tlm Minister, or .Public Works had the matter well in hand. MOPERF PATHS Mr Jl. F. Forster commented that the facilities at the Mormi baths badly needed attention. At the top baths there was an absolute lack of privacy and there were .otln r matters badly needing attention. On Air Forster’s suggestion, it was deeided to write to the (Venera] Manager of Tourists Resorts, drawing his attention to the matter.
