Mr. Coates, addressing the annual meeting of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s -Association leviewed the New Zealand trade statistics. The total British trade during the year showed an in the excess of exports from £7,485,117 t0£16,899,386; £16,899,386; the- total foreign, trade showed a reduction in excess "of imports from £5,995,449 to £6,356,722. The total New Zealand trade therefore; showed an improvement of £13,053,006. wliich was a record recovery from an adverse trade balance. ' Tlie Prime Minister stated that with the exception of tho trading year 1021 the figures for the twelve months ending March 31, 1928, constituted a recorcf in' recovery from the adverse trade balance suffered during the preceding year. The total trade figures of New Zealand for the years 1927 and 1928 ending March 31 in both cases, were: Exports, £45,652,338 and £54,962,031 respectively; imports £48,192,670 and £44,419,357. The excess of exports in 1928 over those of 1927 totalled £10,542,674, while the excess of imports in 1927 compared with 1928 was £2,510,332. The Dominion’s total exports to Britain for the year 1926-2/ were £40,137,253, and for tlfe year 1927-28 £4-7,226,578, while those _to foreign countries were £5,545,085 and .£7,735,453 lespectvely. Tlie total British imports into New Zealand for the 1926-27 period were £32,652,136, and for 1927-28 period £30,-327,192, while the importations from countries were respectively £15,540,534 and £14,092,165. Of tlie exports to foreign countries the United States absorbed in 1926-27 £3,255,,594, and in 1927-28 £3,052,710, while the Dominion importations from the United States were in 1926-27 £9,(66,910, and in 1927-28 £7,993.156.
