Dr. and Airs J. W. Williams, Mrs K. S. Williams, Airs J. H. Taplin, and Messrs J. and AI. Williams motored through to Hawke’s Bay to attend the Williams—Crompton wedding. They are the guests of Air A. Williams, “St. Lawrence,” Otane.

Among the New Year honors conferred by His Majesty the King was the Kaiser-i-Hind Medal to Mrs F. Stanley, of Calcutta, for public services in India. Mrs Stanley is a daughter of Mrs Howard Anderson, and a sister of Sister Dalgairns ol Kenilworth Nursing Home, Gisborne, .and Mr I. S. O. Dalgairns, Tuparoa, East Coast.

Princess Mary, records the London Chronicle, is among the several Royal ladies who are enthusiastic about “growing things.” She has made a wonderful transformation in the garden at Goldsborough, where Lord Lascelles is also very keen about gardening, and will preside at the anniversary festival dinner of the Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Fhnd on June 28.

The Misses Acland-Allen, of England, who are touring New Zealand, left for the south last week. During their stay -in- Wellington they hate been the guests' of Mrs Florance, Kelburn. ‘ .Miss Elizabeth Allen, who is connected with Lady Margaret Ryder’s organisation for hospitising university students from overseas, is renewing many acquaintances, and is making inquiries on many points of interest ~in New Zealand, especially on the arbitration system and Plunket work. •

WEDE/ING BELLSSHAW—PARKINSON (Special to the Times). OPOTIKI, April 17. St. Stephen’s Church was the scene of a very pretty “rainbow” wedding oil Wednesday last when Isobel, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. W. B. Parkinson, was married to Mr John Shaw, eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Shaw, of Matangi, the ceremony being performed by the Rev." J. E. Draper. The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr William Parkinson, to the strains of the Wedding March rendered by Mrs N. Letts, and looked lovely in shell pink satin and georgette finished with diamante buckle. She wore a white tulle veil embroidered in silver and a wreath of orange blossoms, and carried'a shower bouquet of pink Michaelmas daisies and white cosmos. The bridesmaids were Miss Jessie Lord, charmingly attired in ap-ple-green crepe de chine with pint shoulder posy, and Miss Ada Johnson, looking dhirity in mauve crepe de chine with green shoulder posy. Doth bridesmaids- wore head dress -of. pipk tulle 'with silver sprays and carried bouqgets of hello cosmos and white Michaelmas daisies. The bridegroom’s brother, Mr James Shaw, capably carried out the duties of best man. - : ■ .After the wedding ceremony the bridal party and a. large number of guests adjourned to the Lyric Hall, where a reception .was held after which the happy couple left ;for Rotorua, \en route to Auckland, where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride’s travelling dress was of seagreen repp trimmed' with fawn and fawn hat to match.: Mr and Mrs Shaw were the recipients of many valuable presents,

- ' A BON VOYAGE PARTY. On Saturday afternoon a very delightful .tea was given by Mrs Roland Graham and the Alisses Orr at the former’s home at Ormond, to farewell Mrs ,W. Clark and Airs G. AI. Reynolds, who are leaving" shortly on a visit to England. " The weather was delightful 'and the charming garden gay with autumn flowers was very much-admired. Indoors masses of flowers were used with artistic effect, roses and cosmos in pastel shades decorating the draw-ing-room most charmingly. The dining-room was ornamented in golden tones, vivid marigolds adding a delightful touch of color to the tea table.

Some of the guests enjoyed bridge, while others spent a very happy time chatting to their friends. Airs R.. Graham was wearing a graceful frock of orchid mauve crepe do chine with touches of beige. Miss Orr wore a charming little frock of pink and blue floral georgette and a hat to tone.

Miss F. Orr was smart in a mauve crepe de chine jumper suit, and a large burnt straw hat trimmed with mauve flowers.

Aliss B. Orris pretty frock was of plain blue and floral'"French voile, while Aliss L, Orr chose an attractive frock of striped crepe de chine in autumn tones.

. Airs G. AI. Reynolds wore a smart black georgette coat over a white crepe de chine frock figured with red and black spots, and a small black hat.

Airs "VV. Clark was wearing an elegant black crepe de chine frock patterned with large golden flowers, a black georgette coat and a primrose colored crinoline hat.

OPENING OF GOLF. The official opening of ,the Poverty Bay Golf Club’s 1928 season took place at the Awapuni links on Saturday afternoon, in glorious weather and was a. very pleasant function. In the absence of the president (Air A. 11. AATillis) and the captain (Mr E. AI. Hutchinson) Air R. U. Burke, in a short speech, declared the season open. A mixed medal mutch was played, during the afternoon, Aliss Higginson and A. AATntehead returning the best card. Afternoon tea was served in the picturesque club house to a large number of members and visitors, the tables being charmingly decorated with mauve salvia and Japanese sunflowers.

BIRTHDAY SURPRISE PARTI. What proved a delightful surprise *vas sprung upon Miss Nancy Wilson. on Friday evening, ■ when over thirtv friends visited her home and treated her to a jolly birthday. celebration. The party mas organised by Misse> Maida Pullinger, Tui Swinnerton and Kathleen Khull, who added several car loads of country friends to. the merry party of personal chums from town. . The drawing-room, which was ga> with quantities of cosmos and dahlias, was soon cleared for dancing, and throughout the fading hours jazz reigned supreme. Miss Edna Jelinek and Mr Len Thomson contributed spirited rag time and repeat selections were the order of the evening. Fruit salads and trifles were served prior to the dispensation of a delicious hand round supper, after which the .guests were motored home. Miss Wilson was attired in a pretty frock of pink shot taffeta, handnainted with sprays of maiden-hair fern. IVJiiss Tui Swinnerton wore rv frock contrived from silver lame and cyclamen taffeta. Miss Pullinger chose navv weorgette offset bv a crimson shoulder posy. Miss Khull’s frock was of coral pink charineuse. and over her shoulders was a handsame silk shawl. Mrs Wilson was wearing a simply designed gown of chocolate embossed velvet.

CABARET AT LE GRANDE AUCKLAND VISITOR ENTERTAINED Le Grande jLounge presented a merry scene last evening when a highly enjoyable cabaret dance was given by Mrs Jack Irving, of Domett street, in honor of her sister, Mrsl G. Gow, of Auckland, who has been visiting Gisborne during the past two months and lias .been the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs F. Clayton, of Palmerston road. Between 30 and 40 couples were pre sent last evening and the lounge was tastefully decorated with flowers and streamers. Mrs F, Clayton was wearing a frock of emerald green crepe-de-chine. Mi-s J. Irving made a pretty picture in a frock of silver brocade with silver shoes to tone. The guest of honor wore a beautiful frock of pale heliotrope crepe-de-'chine with; lace to match. During the evening a number of musical items were thoroughly enioyed by the guests, while Master Rex Clayton contributed a violin solo which proved one of the most popiv lar items in this portion of the programme, , '
