Maxwell Steele, aged nineteen years, was rttacked by a shark in the surf at Bondi. He taught off the monster and swam thirty yards to the shore with his left leg stripped cf flesh from ankle to knee. There were few bathers present at the time and Steele’s condition was unnoticed for a time. When found he was rushed to hospital where it was found that amputation of fhe leg was necessary. His condition is critical.
