EXPENSIVE MEMORIAL
AUCKLAND’S WAR MUSEUM FRICTION OVER FINANCES (Special to tlie > Times.) AUCKLAND, April 13, It se.ems that the maintenance ol Auckland’s war memorial museum is going to be an expensive matter. The museum authorities asked the city council last- evening for £4OOO for -next year, stating it was appealing to outside local bodies for donations and these would bo deducted from the city's amount, \ .“Do not let us hold'out any hope that the city is going to find £4OOO. They should understand that they liavei very little chance of getting more than £2OOO from the city”, said Mr Alluin. “The other local bodies say we are a tail wagging the dog. Let them show their importance by immediately meeting tli© extra £2000,” he remarked. Other councillors agreed that tiie museum was an institution that should be supported by all local bodies within at least ten miles.
Mr E. J. Phelan said that £4OOO was the very least that the institution could be run on’this year. The removal expenses bad to be met and about £ISOO was non-recurring expense.
The question was referred to the Finance Committee.
