430 MILES AN HOUR.

ROCKET CAR’S RECORD COSTS .FORTUNE TO DRIVE United Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright (Australian Press Association.) (Received April 15. 5.5 p.m.) BERLIN, April 14. The Director of the Opel Company asserts that in yesterday’s trial, the rocket car obtained a speed of 430 miles per hour for a few seconds. The rocket car resembles a racer except iii a steel chamlrer at the rear containing twelve pipes, whence the rockets arc discharged. Pairs of pipes are connected with fuses and are linked to a switchboard controlled by the driver. The rockets are discharged by an electric spark causing a. sheet of flame to burst out, the car leaping forward with terrific speed enveloped in a smoke cloud The drawback, is that each rocket costs a small fortune.
