ARRIVAL IN PORT TO-DAY
ENTERTATNAIENTS ARRAN’GED
Representatives of the Borough Council, the Navy League, and tin Harbor Board have discussed and arranged the following programme ol entertainments for officers and men of POLS. Diomede during her visit to Gisborne from to-day until February lot— . , Fridav Afternoon. —Upon arrival ol ship (owing to the indisposition of the Mavorj the Deputy-Mayor (Mr. James Blair) will pay a formal visit of welcome. Evening.,. o’clock. ——The. Gi&bov lip, Athateiir Athletic Sports" “Association extends a welcome to visit their sports meeting being, held in Childers Road Reserve. Car to convey men to and from sports, meeting being.arranged bv Mr. Forster, who desires to pick them up by 6.30 from landing opposite Harbor Board office. Saturdav.—An invitation is extended by the P.B. Turf Club for the men to attend the race .meeting at the Makaraica course, first race starts at noon. Afternoon.—Cricket matches are being plaved at the Oval, where a visit from any of the ship’s company will be appreciated. Evening.—Free. Sunday Afternoon. —Motor drive m country.’afternoon tea. Starting from landing opposite Harbor Board offices ■it 2 pan.. The Navy League, represented by Messrs./Kells and Rowley being responsible for the organisation, and the /council for refreshments. . Monday Afternoon. —Another run in the country similar to Sunday. Evening— Attend pictures. The proprietors of The Palace and Everybody’s Theatre? each extend an. invitation for -50 men to-attend. Tuesday afternoon.—The Waikarine Beach Society extend an invitation for the men to use their tennis courts and bathing sheds. Evening.—Pictures similar to Monday. and "the Olympic Swimming Club forward an invitation for 50 men to attend their swimming carnival at the High School -ibath, commencing at 8 o'clock. The baths can be reached by trams which will carry men in uniform to and, from free. Mr. Scott, representing the South African Veterans’ Association, waited upon the committee and stated that they were holding a re-union on Saturday evening and that two members of the ship's company had been invited to attend. The Deputv-Mavor reported that he had interviewed Mr. Nolan, president of the P.B. Turf Gliib and ~ had been arranged that naval men in uniform he’ admitted to the Path racecourse on Saturday free of charge. .
