CROSSING SMASH

MOTOR DRIVER KILLED

PALMERSTON N., Jan. 3. Tlie relief Wanganui express struck a motor van at 11.55 o’clock tins morning on the Longburn Rongoton level crossing. The driver of the motor ear, Andrew Guthrie, was killed instantly. His body was brought in to town by trai n.— P.A.

RABBIT SHOOTING AIISIIAP. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. -2. While shooting rabbits at Courtenay yesterday a.youth named Ronald Burling of 9 North Avon Road, received a. gunshot wound in the leg. He was admitted to Christchurch hospital. Burling and his mate were walking one along each side, of a fence. The other man’s gun went off accidentally, and Burling received practically the full charge -in the thigh. JI is condition is not serious.

PRIEST KILLED. CAR. OVERTURNED. ROTORUA, Jan. 3. Early this morning as a Siddlcv car, owned and .driven by Mr. AY. L. Wiseman, solicitor, Auckland, and occupied by Father Kreymborg, parish priest at Rotorua, Doan Van Dyk, Mr. Mark Hamp'son, solicitor, and his sen, was oil route to Rotorua and Wharepaina. on the Taupo road, at- the twenty-eight mile peg, a tyre burst and the car overturned. Father ICreymhorg was thrown against the shield, dying almost immediately. Dean, Van Dyk was .severely ‘bruised and shaken, and Air. AViseman is suffering from minor shock. Air.
