MR. LANCASTER AND THE BEACH

(To tlm Editor.) Sir, —T would deem id a favor if you could allow me space in reply to ‘ ‘Motorist’s Wail” of-_ Saturday’s issue. 1 do not wish to withdraw any statement that I made to the reportor us I consider whnt I did stole was justified. But I would liave liked to meet some oi these gentlemen who have so criticised my statements. Now with regard to Aljr Tolorton s (chairman of the A.A. A.) statement, 1 would willingly have seen the secretary if 1 had known where to see him. ‘but I do not even know as yet. Mr Tolorton goes on to say he is not in a position, as yet, to refute the statement that the campers were pavihg 2s 6d per day. Does Ah Tolorton fool that lie would like to trvi? Again, if Mr. Tolorton did not know, who should? lie goes on to say, assuming ’that the charge is 2s‘ Gd per day, that not many would grumble.- 1. don’t think anyone has grumbled, no more than to point out that the most important thing of all is left undone and that is the appointment of a caretaker, i am quite sure that the majority of us would willingly have paid their proportion for someone to look alter the tent,-, etc., while we were away. In referring to that clause I want to say that no blame is attached to the Beach caretaker. _ 110 has adapted himself to the position as lar as his time would allo<v him, and has done everything he can for us. Now, Air Tolorton goes on to say that Mr Lancaster should have la Icon a sporting course instead of rushing to the press. That statement is totally unfair, as I did not rush to the press.- i endeavoured to get to those responsible for lour days. Qhen T was approached by a reporter and the message was left at the tearoom that the ropprtor wanted .to see me, so it is clear that I did not rush to the press. However, J. know Mi' Tolorton and f hone to meet him before J. leave, as Air. 'lolorton stales that improvement will he made for the benefit, of campers. With regard to Air Hill, why did he not- tell me to mv face when talking to him that mv statements were very unfair? AViih regard to Air. Alarior, lessee of the tea-rooms, vou will notice Afr Tolorton stated that during the last ten days they have had good reports*from the far north ancl south. -Mr. 'Alarior says that [ had a blazing fire, and lie objected to every Tom, Dick and Harry using it and that he requested mo to enclose mv lire m a tin. 1 think voe.r reporter has misunderstood Ah- Alarior. as i lied already an enclosed Ire when Air. Alarior came over and. furl her, that Air. Alarior s work was not to slop me from cooking, hut that lie did not want every Tom. Dick and Harry to do if. I don’t think lie said that I was doing it. However, in conclusion, we have had a real-good time in your town, and hope to advertise you when we cot hack.—T am. Yours etc.. F. T. LANCASTER, Camper, AYaikanae Beach.
