SAMOAN SQUABBLE
AIOVE FOR. SETTLEMENT. WERE CONCILIATORY STEPS’ TOO LATE? AUCKLAND, Dec. 31. A wireless message received from the Auckland Star’s Apia correspondent to-day states that while Air 0. F. Nelson was seeking an interview with the Administrator, Sir George Richardson," to arrange an effective conference with the Samoans as requested by the Administrator, the deportation orders were made.
Nevertheless, Mr Nelson complied with the Administrator’s request, and was supcessful in exacting a promise to keep the peace, but the Samoan leaders have definitely declared that the Mau organisation will continue till their grievances are redressed.
Before the deportation orders were •nade, a deputation from the three leading mission societies and also remission citizens waited on the Administrator urging conciliation to preserve peace.—P.A.
