PROPOSED EXPENDITURE OF 625,000,000 DOLLARS INCREASES IN NAVY AND AIR FORCE t (Received Dec. 5. 16.25 P-ut-j WASHINGTON,. Dec. o. President Coolidge, delivering his budget message to Congress, stated that 625.000.000 dollars will be available for expenditure for defence purposes. The present estimates carry 48,000,000 dollars for an increase of the navy, providing for all projects authorised by Congress, excepting three submarines and twelve destroyer's authorised in lOio for which no funds at present are desired. The navy craft under construction in 1929 will- comprise two submarines and eight cruisers, of which two will be practically completed in 1929. Ample funds are provided for, the modernisation of. the battleships Nevada and Oklahoma, and the necessary funds are provided to , continue the five year programme. It is expected by near/ the end of -the coming fiscal year to have 696 planes of the scheduled 1000. Additional funds to those already appropriated are also recommended for dirigibles. Estimates for the Army Air Corps provide for the continuance of the five year programme based on 1800 planes at the end of five'years.—A. and N.Z.G.A.
