BRANCH. There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne branch ol tlie Women s National Council, over whom Mrs. Walker presided. The office of treasurer, vacated by Mrs. Tennant on her removal from. the Gisborne district, was entrusted to Mrs; Nowell, and a welcome was extended to Mrs. Havers, who takes Mrs. Tennant’s place as a representative 'from the Temperance Society, and who was appointed the delegate from the council to the' St. John Ambulance Association for the ensuing year. Tlie headquarters cf the organisation . at Christchurch, forwarded a request for the nomination from the Gisborne branch of a delegate to represent the Dominion at. I anPacific Conference of "W omen at Honolulu .—On the motion of the president, this matter was held over for discussion later. Amo n" the questions on tlie order paper for the Fan-Pacific Conference are: (1 Education.; (.2) health: '.A women in industry; and (4) women, in government and social work from the Shanghai N.C.W. comes the following suggestion: “Tlie world is so much in a state of flux socially that neither the Eastern nor the Western woman seems inclined to accept the domestic status quo as inevitable, and an interesting section might be added on ‘Women in the Home. Another suggestion is being forwarded from the Wellington branch as follows: ‘The topics chosen seem very ebutprehensive;. would No. 3 (women in industry) embrace the professions. because here there is a strong tendency to pay women less than men iu An interesting letter irom Lady Aberdeen, and portions of her presidential address to the executive o. the International Council, held lecently at Geneva, were also read and discussed.
