PROPRIETOR AYILL NOT RECONSIDER DECISION.
AUCKLAND, Dec. 2. Tho Akarana Alaori Association discussed correspondence with the proprietor of a city hairdressing saloon m K-gurd to the exclusion of Alaori customers, in respect of which the secretary of the association had written pointing out that some of its members held very responsible positions ; some were personal friends ol the I'rimo Alinister, while others lino conversed with the Governor-General, and others had dined with the Archbishop. The proprietor of "lie saloon wiote in reply that he had always excluded all colored gentlemen from ins saloon, and would contiuue on similar lines.
The secretary was instructed to reply regretting that the proprietor did not appreciate the line effort of the .Maori to equalise his social status with that of Europeans, it was also decided to state that the i >sce ation considered equality of whiteness vas not essential, to a gentleman.—i'.A.
