FAMILIES' NARROW ESCAPE,

MELBOURNE, Oct. 20.

A fire at Port- Melbourne trapped the Edwards and Savage families ’of eight persons. Airs Edwards, in trying to escape down the stairs, was badly burned. All escaped in their night clothes to the roof, thence to safety, carrying the injured woman, who later succumbed to burns.— U.P.A.

TWO CHILDREN BURNED TO DEATH

(Received 1 Oet. 20. 10 p.m.) HOBtART, Oct. 20. Fire destroyed a flat building in the eitv early this morning. Two children, Harry Lindon, aged two years, and Athol Ikin, four years, who were asleep, were entrapped in a bedroom and unable to be rescued and were burned to death.—U.P.A.
