SOCIAL EVENING (Special to the ’l imes.) OPCTIKI. Oct; iy. The Country Bi/gby football club celebrated the winning of the Opotik: Rugby -Union senior competition b\ holding a social evening in the Farmers’ tea-rooms on Saturday night. Mr S. M. Jeplison, president, was in the chair, there being a large attendance of members and invited guests. Mr Jeplison, in it brief speech, heartily congratulated the players oil winning the competition and concluded by presenting Mr Davies, the captain of the team, with the Drvsdale Cup. Mr Daviosj replying, stated that the team was very proud at having won the championship, though, at the commencement of the season, they did not think they had much chance.. A liaudsonie shield, with a photograph of tho winning team in the centre, was also presented to the club by Mr Jack Luttrcll, who stated that, as long as lie is in the district, lie would lntv'e pleasure in presenting a similar shield annually to tho winners of tho senior competition. This sporting offer and gift wei’e suitably 'recognised. Mi' ■I. Burton (president of. the Union), announced that, next season, trophies would be offered for the most improved senior player, and to the best senior place-kicker. Air 0. Wells was the recipient of a presentation from tlio club of a handsomely mounted enlarged photograph of the county senibAeam; 1 Mr' Wells Ms shortly leaving the district, and the presentation was in, acknowledgement of his services rendered,' Mid of the high, esteem in'which he .is held. Wef] 8 responded ill a. brief speech. ’Toasts and musical items interspersed made up a very good* programme, which was concluded with .tbe singing, of Aulcl Lang Syne. , .. .
