MEETING- OF THE BOARD The Cook Hospital Board’s monthly meeting yesteraay was presided over bv. tiie chairman, Mr W. • G. Sherratt.* There were also resent: Messrs H. Keuv, ay, (.'. 11. Bridge, J. E. Benson, if. \V. Coleman, iv. \V. Shanks, M. 'I. Tralford, G. B. Oman, 11. J. E. Tombleson, 31. \V. Craig, and C. G. JJayhss. Advice was received from the Waiapu Hospital Board that it desired tiie matter of patients’ fees to be submitted to the Jlinister of Health.—The Board decided to submit evidence in support of its case to the Minister. ,
The Masseurs Registration Board advised that the services of a number of' young ladies who-would graduate from the massage training school at the end ot October, would bo available at C'l-r'J per annum.—The Board decided to reply stating it. had no vacancies at present.
The report of the treasurer showed that during September the receipts amounted to £3971 Itls Id. including tees £-193 lbs Sd, contributions by Cpotiki Hospital Board £l3-1 10s -id, donations £IOO 2s, and local bodies levies £2671. The expenditure during the month totalled £3363 7s -id, which with the debit balance on Sept 1 totalling £1963 16s 3d, made a total of £0377 3s id. After accounts amounting to £-1630 14s were .passed that day, the Board's credit balance at- the bank was £341 2s Id. During the month the fees charged amounted to £1462. There are now -51 inmates of'the Memorial Home, comprising 42 men and 9 women, which is the limit oi the latter, according to the report of the custodian. The statement of account of the dairy farm for the past month showed that the receipts amounted to . £157 2s 4d and -expenditure £7O I<> od, leaving an excess of receipts over payments amounting to £B6 4s lid. The Sister in charge of the Tolaga Bay Hospital reported there had beeir eight admissions and five discharges, leaving four patients in hospital. There had been three births and also six outpatients treated. She tendered thanks to Mrs Prince for cream and Mr O’Rodke for / vegetables. The building frftni the district nurse’s cottage was at present being erected.—The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £4630 14s were passed lor payment. The medical superintendent mentioned that he was not satisfied with the lire lighting'-appliances at present at.the Hospital, it was agreed that Mr Kane, Fire Inspector, bo asked to look into the matter and submit a report to the' Board, stated the report of the F'intince Committee. The Fire Superintendent, in a letter recommended the purchase of a GO gallon chemical fire- extinguisher for use on the hospital. Tho matter was deferred for com sideration by the medical superintendent.
HOSPITAL FARM. The progress of the farm during the past quarter was indicated by .’the. manager (Mr A. 11. Marsh) in a report to tlio Board yesterday, lie stated:—“With tlie good rains-ex-perienced this winter, the grass is coming away remarkably well. We are reaping the. full' -benefit of topdressing of pastures: which we have been doing as far as funds will permit. Tlie stock are-all, in particularly, good condition. The-'young heifers' are coming in well. , W'cyare sending a considerable quantity of "cream to the factory, and this is likely to increase for some time. 'The autumn and winter sown-oalfs arc looking particularly well. Wo - have 'not required them lor winter feeding; so intend .making ensilage, the land to bo put down in permanent pasture and other land broken up for winter feed. The electrical milking plant lias been installed and is giving good results.” The report was adopted. . ... ,
