Four Maori Owned Horses Disqualified.
At a race meeting held at Tolaga. Bay in February, 1882. four Maoriowned winners were disqualified—three (one the winner of two races) on the ground of not belonging to the district,'and‘one because the owner or nominator was not a subscriber or the Club. The Maoris were indignant,
Main School irt 1884. The attendance at the Gisborne School in ISB4 was 450. The staff comprised: Mr. Morgan, headmaster; Mr. Bull, assistant master: Miss Davison, assistant mistress; Miss McIntosh. infant teacher: and blisses Rachel Forbes. E, Oatridge and Mary F. Hall, and Masters James Haughey and Frederick Faram, pupil teachers.
Gas Co=’s First Annual Meeting. The first annual meeting of shareholders in the Gisborne Gas Co. was held on January 20, 1884. It was reported that 1550 shares out of 2000 had been allotted. Messrs. Maude, Wilson. Croft, Adair. Porter, Chrisp and" Ferris were elected directors.
Swimming Club's First Sports. Tlie Gisborne Swimming Chib held its ovmning sports on St. Patrick's Dav. 1891.
