DAIRY PRODUCE,

HEAVY INCREASE IN BUTTERFAT.

WELLINGTON, May 7. The figures of the Dairy -Division of the Department of Agriculture show that the salted butter .graded for April, 1927, amounted' to 5019 tons, and the unsalted to 182 tons, a totp.l of 5201 tons, compared with 4023 tons salted and 91 tons unsalted, a total of 4114 tons, for April, 192-d----an increase of 20.4 per cent. For the nine months ended April, 1927.. the respective quantities were 61.263 tons and 2193 tons, a total of 66,456 tons, compared with 56,431 and 2818, a total of 59,159 tons, for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 12.3 per cent. The cheese ■graded for April, 1927, comprised: white. 453 S tons, colored 2314 tons, a total of 6852 tons, compared with 4196 tons of white and 2385 of colored, a total" of 6581 for-April, 1926 an increase of 4.1 per cent. The quantities for the nine months ended April, .1927, were: White 46,926 tons, colored 23,521, a total of 70,517, compared with 43,804 white and 24,61.0 colored, a total of 68,414 for the corresponding period of the preceding season, an increase of 3.1 per cent. Converting these figures into the but-ter-fat equivalent, there is an increase of 9.11 per cent, butter fat production for the nine months, compared with the corresponding period •of 1925-23 season. Stocks held in various grading ports as at April 30, 1927, were: Butter 10,697 tons, cheese 12 956 tons, compared with 9227 tons of butter and 11,572 tons of cheese held on April 39, 1926. P.A. N.Z.
