WAGGON AXLE BREAKS

DUNEDIN, April 8When a goods train from Balcluthawas passing Green Island at 1.30 a.m. to-day, tlve axle of a wagon broke, causing the derailment of li trucks laden with coni and wood. The down train arrived an hour later. Some wagons were badly damaged, the contents being scattered all over the track. No one was injured. There is. a double track to Alosgicl, so no passenger services were deranged.—P.A.

BUS RUNS INTO TRAIN. DRIVER SAVED FROM DEATH. AUCKLAND, April 8. An employee of the -General Omnibus Co., Edward Tlios. Gibson, of Avondale, had a terrifying experience at 10 o’clock last night at New. Lynn railway crossing- Seeing a passenger train a few feet ahead he applied the brakes, but hit- the middle of the engine. Gisbon fell from the driver’s seat on the bus, but his sole passengers, T. R. George seized him by the legs, and prevented him falling under the wheels of the tram. Fortunately the train was pulling up preparatory- to setting down passengers at New Lynn station. The bonnet and engine of the bus were- damaged, but not extensive.

MOTORCYCLIST AND LORRY CRASH. FATALLY INJURED BY DRILL.. HAMILTON. April 8. W. Brookes sustained a. broken leg and injured arm in a collision at Ok-c.-ia, near Matamata, between his motor cvclc and a motor lorry. Alfred Little, 32, a married man with five children, succumbed last night to injuries received through being run over by a drill when the horses he was working at Waiteturm got out of control. Tutu Kingi died in Waikato Hospital this morning through burns sustained by the explosion of a tar 1 oiler at Putaruru earlier in the week.--P.A.
