MUNICIPAL REMITS

PRESENTED TO PREMIER

DIVISION OF THE “KICKS”

WELLINGTON, April 8. The executive of the Municipal Association of New Zealand placed remits passed by the annual conference before the Prime Minister. A statement that they numbered 110 elicited an exclamation of surprise, but he was assured that those to be presented to him bad been reduced to 30. Mr Coates said some of the points were important, but there were always two sides to a question. He would ask the Ministers concerned to apply themselves to the problem and see ligw far they could assist. He believed in a policy of decentralisation, and was quite nulling to give authority which would enable municipal bodies to receive some of the kicks the Government now got. (Laughter.)—-P.A.
