FERRY STEAMER’S DILEMMA
AUXILIARY ENGINE FAILS. WELLINGTON, April 4. Owing to the failure of the auxiliary engines when in the 7 0 Karori Rock light at. 8.20 o clock nmht, the Tamahine, bound nom Picton to Wellington, was suddenly plunged into total darkness. Speed had to be reduced, and owing to a south-east swell conditions were mm o too comfortable for the passengers. Temporary lights were , hoisted, and hand steering brought into commission, the vessel proceeding under reduced steam and arriving at 1.20 a.m. —P.A.
