GRIM SOUVENIR OF ALPINE TRAGEDY. LONDON, Jan. 24. An alpenstock inscribed “Dr .J. Bean,” cast up by Bosson’s glacier, Mont Blanc, is a grim souvenir of a tragedy 57 years ago. Bean, an American, and the Rev. Mr McCorkindalc, a Glasgow minister, m September, 1870; with eight guides, climbed to the summit of Mont Blanc, hut were overtaken by a blizzard when descending and lost their way in a snowstorm which lasted a week. Then the bodies of McC’orkindale, Bean and three guides were found in a crevasse, but the others were never recovered.—A.N.Z.C.A.
