N.Z. FIRE BRIGADES
ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN GISBORNE. TO COMMENCE FEBRUARY 26. One hundred and forty-six of New Zealand’s fire brigades will be represented at the forthcoming United Fire Brigades’ Association to be opened in Gisborne on February 28. The delegates, many of whom will be accompanied by their wived, will reach Gisborne on Saturday, Februiry 26 and a church phrade will be held on Sunday. Following the official welcome the conference opens in the Assembly Hall on the Monday i lorning.
Evert thing possible is being done ‘to cater for the entertainment of the \ isitors, and a strong citizens’ comi littee, comprising the following, has i een set up for this purpose: Messrs Miles (chairman), IV. Hamilton Irvine (lion, secretary), T. Adams, H. if. Forster, J. A. Nicol. B. S. Bree, Ji. Handricks, R. J. Iverridge, I’. Tulerton, F. R. Ball, If. Collin, A. iS. Parker, H. H. Edwards, George Bmith, E. T. Dodclrell, Clias. Adair, F. Goodman and O. Prince.
On the way through from Napier the Wairoa Brigade will entertain the southern visitors at a function to lie Held at that centre on the evening of February 25. Gisborne residents will shortly be given an opportunity to show their appreciation of the manner in which Die brigade protect their property in a special campaign for funds for the conference. Another incentive for a generous response will be the fact that Gisborne should receive a great boost by the large number of visitors from all parts of the Dominion.
