“The accounts show that the net result of the year’s operations is a loss of £3320 i6s 4d, which, in view of the serious condition of the trade generally, must be considered satisfactory.” The above sentence is taken from the thirty-seventh annual report and statement of accounts of the Wellington Meat Export Company, coverins the year ended September 30. 1920. “As recent telegrams from the South Island have shown,” continued the report, “the making of losses on the year is not uncommon among meat freezing companies.” —E.A.
