“ALONG CAME RUTH”
When Eddie Cline, director of “Affirm Came Ruth” the latest Aie-tro-Goklwyn-Alayer production, starring Viola Dana, selected the cast for this picture he concentrated upon the comedy angle of the story, and secured the services of a number of well-known comedians. -Raymond AlcKee was appointed to play opposite Viola, Dana' in a role that; gave him plenty of scope for his pleasing style, whilst Tully Alarshall is seen in one of liis famous “grouch” roles. Water Hiers plays a live-wire town boosster and Victor Potel revives, many of the happy absurdities that marked his career as Slippery Slim. “Along Came Ruth” is claimed to he the funniest picture ever filmed. It is about a town called Action for a joke. And a girl who came along and saw' the joke. When Ruth fell off the train at Action, nobody noticed it—-they were all asleep. So she brought out the fire brigade. And that was the beginning of the trouble. Action,. which had slumbered for a hundred years, felt as though a hornet had stung it. W ildeyed citizens rushed' about frenziedlv.- Two Mayors''were-• nominated in .the- rush. And Act I 'on came .on the map with a, hang. It’s the hilarious story of a girl who took the town ’■Jy the ears and shook life into if.
