The bush fires which are raging in the vicinity of Brisbane readied the climax when the city was encircled by flames and smoke so thick that the sun at times was almost obscured. Practically every range of i hills and mountains within a radius of 50 miles is ablaze. In many places the roads are impassable, owing to smoke, heat, and fallen trees. HUGE. BUSH FIRES IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
WHOLE COUNTRY ON NORTHERN BORDER FLAMES. SYDNEY, Oct. 14. Huge bush fires are reported in the northern part of the State. The whole country from the Queensland border to Tabulam across the Tooloo range is ablaze. Unconfirmed reports state that some houses we»' burnt. All telegraphic communication is cut off. There has been little tain for months, and the country is exceedingly dry.— U. P. A.
