ALLEGED THEFT OF £220
.PALMERSTON X.. Oto. 13. Charged that on September 22 at Palmerston North he did steal the sum of £220 in money, the property of the Borough Council. Herbert Gurnov, 26, appeared before Mr Mowlem, S.M.. at the Magistrate's Court this morning. The accused, who was described as a seaman and a native of England, presented an unkempt appearance. On the application of the police, a remand was granted until niext Wednesday Accused did not ask tor bail- —P.A.
NEW PLYMOUTH CASES NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 13. - In the Magistrate's Court- Kenneth West and Emma, Waters were each fined £1 and costs for broaches of tho licensing law in selling homemade wine. T. R- Julian was fined £1 for selling Rutter in a wrapper not hearing the name oi the packer and. the net weight. .. Five defendants were fmed £1 each for being . illegally wnilri-ensed premises as the guests of a- boardei.
PRISONERS. SENTENCED ; AUCKLAND, Ok 13.Prisoners were sentenced, by Air J'ustice iHerdmian this morning, as fol’ows: Edward Albert Clufungs.. unnatural offence and indecency, one year’s hard labor and four years reformative treatment: Paddy. Heath a, Maori, for breaking, entering and theft, and assault causing bodily harm, one year’s hard, labor, cumulative on both counts; William Les-lie-Edwards, theft- and forgery two years’ probation; James Charles Thomas Keane, forgery, three years’ probation; Clement Murphy, escaping from custody and now doing three years’ reformative treatment, twp years’ hard labor, followed by two years’ reformative treatment concurrent with his present- sentence; Reginald 1 John Massey, breaking and entering and theft, twelve months’ hard labor, concurrent with a present sentence.
