MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Uawa Comity Council was held) on Saturday. October 9th Present—The Chairman (Cr. E. B. Boland) and Crs. I>. H. Hawkins, E. C. Loisel, G. A. Neill, J. S-. Paterson and 0. E. Smith. Leave of absence was granted to Crs. D. Caldwell and P. T. Weeks. The Public Works Department, Gisbcrne, advised that, as the Council's allocation for this year is definitely fixed, it will be nec’essary to withhold expenditure on other roads to permit a grant of £750, £ for £, for metalling Tolaga-Tauwhareparae Bond.—The Chairman explained that since, receiving this letter he had interviewed the Minister for Public Works on the subject. Messrs Grant and Cooke enclosed correspondence with the Plawke’s Bay Education Board re land for road.—Proposed by the Chairman, seconded bv Cr. Paterson, that the offer of land ■ at, Wigan School for reading purposes at a consideration of 10s plus legal expenses involved, be accepted.—Carried. The Valuation Department stated that no instructions liad yet been received from the Valuer-General to proceed with tlie revision of values. —Deceived. . . The Department of Internal Affairs advised that 500 copies of the circular -‘Fire precautions for householders” bad bc«m forwarded. The Gisborne Borough Council advised that the Mayor had arranged that, the Borough Council fall in with the proposal to erect a memorial on the crave of the late Hon. W- D. S. McDonald and that £25 would be contributed.—The Opotiki County Council stated that £2O had been donated to tlie proposed memorial. _ Mr A. D. Pi ■ice requested permission to carry drain across Mangatokerau road.—Granted, subject to the proposal being approved by the engineer. „ _ ... The Chief Medical Officer of Health stated that, in response, to the exChairman’s representations, he had recommended the Director-General or Health to transfer the Uawa County Council to the Gisborne Health District.—Chairman’s action approved. Applications were made by E. Harries and Son and Mr P. G. Mulloolly for refunds of a portion of their heavy traffic: licenses. —It was lesolved that, as the terms of the Motor Regulations 1925, regarding abatement of licenses bad been carried out. the refunds be made. The Tolaga Bay Harbour Board made application for a transfer of a portion of the landing reserve, near the wharf to the Board.—Acceded to. Messrs Rees, Bright, Wauehop and Parker advised that breaches or the Motor Vehicles Act and regulations thereunder could he heard before two Justices of the Peace. The PoundkeCper s report showed 20 head of stock impounded during the month. , , The Health Inspector reported no cases of infectious disease. It was decided to instruct the Electrical Engineer to label all batteries when they arrive at the power house to be charged and to obtain a signature from the person who takes delivery after being charged. 1+ was proposed bv the.
