The Peak district of Derbyshire continues to yield archaeological treasures to the probing ot Mr V . Allan Milton, a member of the fhinsfi Archaeological Society, and Mr r • A. Holmes, F.R.G-.S. Excavating a tumulus near Duxton, they have discovered the skeleton of a man oft Tin in height anu the finding of flint tools buried with the bodv indicates that the mn belongs to the early Bronze Age—from 1500 to 2000 B.C. The tools found include a runt- savknifo. 3in long and -|in wide, which experienced archaeologists regard as the best specimen of its kniu round in the country. One side is pointed like a knife aiid the other has 12 perfect- serrations. The saw was evidently used to cut through the flesh of animals and the knife to pare oh the skin. . , , , As some tumuli m the local;, y hn\o been known to contain 18 interments, Mr Milton and Mr Holmes are continuing their search and have holies of unearthing pottery urns, in which the. calcined hones of the dea- "-era buried in the Bronze Age.
