EMPIRE TOURNAMENT. AUSTRALIAN’S GOOD START. , (Received April 13, 8.3 p.m.) LONDON, April 12. An Empire Billiards Tournament wherein Shailer (Australia), Malcolm Smith (Scotland), Earlam (England), and lloutledge (Soutli Africa), are competing, -extending to May 4, has opened.

All the matches are 2000 up. Each receives a gold medal and the winner a trophy. At the close of the play, Shailer had scored 1001, Smith 469. (Reeived April 13, 9.20 p.m.)

LONDON, April 13. Shailer opened the night session and brilliantly scored 266 in half an hour, including breaks of 77 and 61. Smith, who so far had few chances, then had five useful runs, Shailer replying with 40, 29, 23 and 79. The night session yielded the Australian 501, an average of 10}. —A. and N.Z. C.A.
