HOW TATE BOWLS
MARVELLOUS SLOW-JdDTIfIN .. FILM.
KELLEWAY DESCRIBES MOVEMENTS IN DETAIL
WORLD MAY NOW KNOW HOW EACH BALL WILL ACT.
(United Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received April 13, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 12. Kelleway, in the “Daily Express'* to-day, witnessed Pat he’s slow motion film showing Tate bowling, tie ye :
“Tate’s bowling astonished and mystified the world. It is wonderful, because Tate admits he does’nt knowf how he does it. " I played against Tate and have been puzzled as his hand and fingers gave no indication of the nature of the ball. You have to learn Tate carefully, like a new lesson. His different deliveries don’t vary according to the rules but according to Tate, lit one test Tate bowled out-stingers and off-breaks. I though 1 knew him and shaped to jiut one to leg, but the ball after pitching turned off towards the slips and I was caught at the wicket, which ie most puzzling.
“I had the Patlie picture slowed down to see if I could account for the deviation in flight and tun extraordinary nip wherewith Tate’s most dangerous ball come» oil the pitch. Tate held the seam of the ball between his first and second linger. There was the slightest flick of the wrist from right to left, and the whole arm and shoulder seem to follow the hall in its flight in a taut effort. The trajectory is remarkably low. There is great body effort. I am confident after seeing this wonderful picture that it will be possible to tell exactly how each particular delivery will act after leaving Tate’s hand.”—A. and N.Z.C.A.
