SUGGESTED REDUCTION TO AVOID UNFAIR TAXATION (Recived Jan. 31, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 30. With the object of. avoiding what is regarded as unfair taxation, reductions in the stipends of the Archbishop of Canterbury from £15,000 to £SOOO, the Archbishop of York from £IO,OOO to £3OOO, the Bishop of London from £IO,OOO to £3339, the Bishop of Durham from £7OOO to £2339, the Bishop of Winchester from £BSOO to £216*3 veil be proposed at the Church Assembly, opening in London on February 8. The dignatones at present pay income super-taxes on the full stipend from.which they meet church as- welE'as personal expenses. It will be also proposed that the Archbishops shall have pensions of £ISOO, the three bishops named of £IOOO and the others of £BOO, towards the cost of which they will pay three and a-lialf per centum of their stipend. The scheme provides for better pay for. the poorer clergy.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
