Mr Baldwin, speaking at Stirling, said it was necessary to build 20,000 bouses yearly in Scotland, for the next fifteen years, to overcome the shortage. Statistics showed eight per cent, of the population to be living in single rooms. Thirty-nine per Zerfb. were living in two rooms. The Government was not satisfied with the present rate of building, and bad decided to construct 24)00 steel houses fin Scotland yearly. He denied tha,t be was fighting the trade unions or that he was desirous of reducing the builders’ standard of living.
