FIRES

OUTBREAK IN BRIGHT STREET BOYRDING-HOUSE CATCHES FIRE.

FRONT ROOAI BADLY GUTTED. To find that one of her front roomhad been badly gutted by fire and others damaged by smoke and water was the unenviable position that faced Airs Al. K. Robinson when she returned home after a abort absence last evening. It appears that Airs Robinson loit the house, which is a large ten-room-ed building situated in Bright Street, about 50 yards from the Fire Stationshortly before 7 o’clock last evening, at which time there was no sign of anvthing unusual. A few minutes past seven, however. Air A. N. Makefield', a boarder at the house, arrived home to find names issuing from the front of the building. Ho immediately rushed across to the station, and. within a minute or two a lead of water was pouring cu to the flames. The fire, which had evidently started in the wardrobe in one of the front rooms, had obtained a good hold and quickly spreading into the hall cauglu the paper on the walls of a large dicing room situated at the end of tribal!.

The outbreak was soon under control and, except in the room in which it started, very little damage was done to the woodwork, though the paper in the hall and dining room was oadly damaged by the smoke and flame--, and a_large carpet runner down the hall was ruined by the water and debris. The house, which is owned and occupied by Mrs M. K. Robinson, is conducted as a boarding house, and the room in which the tiro started was occupied by Messrs MacClure and H. Barker, both of whom will be heavy losers as all their personal effects were burned.

The building and furniture were insured in the Alliance Office, but. as botli occupants of the room were absent front town last evening, it is not yet known to what extent their personal effects were covered. - r
