WON BY HUESTON (GISBORNE)
The first round of the semi-finals were continued on the Gisborne Club’s greens yesterday in boisterous weather between Seymour (Gisborne) v. Hueston (Gisborne) and Newton (Ivahutia) v. Somervell (Poverty Bay). In the Seymour—Hueston game, Hueston scored one and three twos on the first four heads. Then Seymour scored a two and two ones, making the score on the seventh head, Hueston 7, Seymour 4. Hueston then scored three singles, Seymour increasing Ixis score by a four and a- two, making the score 10 all on the twelfth head. Hueston then scored on the remaining seven beads three twos, a three and a five. Seymour added two singles, making the final score: Hueston 24, Seymour 12: In the Newton—Somervell game Newton scored a two and a one in the first two heads, Somervell then scoring three on the next head, Newton retaliating with a four, making the score on the seventh head : Newton .7, Somervell 3. Somervell then added another two. On the next two heads Newton scored a 1 and a 5. Somervell then received another two. Newton scored the next head with a one, and then Somervell scored three singles. Newton again retaliated with a 6 two singles, a 2 and a 4, making the score in the seventeenth head: Newton 28, Somervell 16. Somervell then scored a single on the eighteenth head, and Newton retaliated on the next with a two, making the final score: Newton 30, Somervell 17. SECOND ROUND. The second round then followed be tween Hueston (Gisborne) v. Sinclair (Gisborne) and Harris (Wairoa) v. Newton (Kahutia). In the Hueston—Sinclair game Hueston scored a t\Vo and a one on the first two heads, Sinclair then scoring three twos on the next thro© heads. Hueston then added to his score with a three, but Sinclair then added a one and a two, leaving the score, at the eighth head, Sinclair 9, Hueston 6. On the ninth head Hueston scored another one, but Sinclair again retaliated with a throe and a one. On the next four heads Hueston scored a one, two twos, and a 4, thus making ti e score on the fifteenth head : Hueston 16, Sinclair 13 Sinclair then notched a couple of singles on the next two heads. Then Hueston retaliated on the next three heads with a 3,5, and a 1. Thus the final score was: Hueston 25, Sinclair 16. In the Harris—Newton game Harris started the ball rolling with a one on the first head. Newton responded on the next head with a three. Harris scored 011 the next three heads with a one and two twos. Newton retaliated on the next two heads with a six and a two. Harris then notched two more, and Newton responded on the following four heads with a series of singles. The score read on the twelfth head, Newton 15, Harris 8. Harris gained another two on the next head, Newton, scoring a two and a three. Harris then scored on the next two heads with a three in each, making the score 011 the seventeenth head, Newton 20, Harris 16. Newton ficorsd on the eighteenth with a two, Hands responding with a single, and Newton again scored on the 20th, making thi. final: Newton 25, Harris 17. In thin game Newton, number two (C. Pollock) and No. 3 (Roderick) were the outstanding players. Newton retaliated on the next two heads with two 3 ! s, Hueston responding on the following with a 3 and a2. Newton scored one on the next head, and again Huestoa scored on the nineteenth head, making the final score: Hueston 27, Newton 15. Hueston’s team played a very even game.

Second round: Raeburn, Pollock, Roderick, Newton 25 v. Fletcher, Andresson sub for Boc’d, A. Sawyer sub for A. B. Smith, Harris 17; Sutton, Boys, Stevenson, Hueston 25 y. Thelwell, R. Robertson, Sinclair 15. Final: Sutton, Boys, Stevenson, Hueston 27 v. Raeburn, Pollock; Roderick, Newton 15.
At the conclusion of the tournament Mr 0. Prince, president of the Gisborne Bowling Centre, presented the Shield to Mr Hueston on behalf of his team, also adding a few appropriate remarks to the runners-up, Mr Newton’s team. He expressed the thanks of the Centre on the sportsmanship displayed by the Wairoa and Tolago Bay teams in returning from their respective towns to take part in the semi-linals.
Mr Houeston suitably responded on behalf of himself and. his team, and Mr Newton, in a few appropriate remarks, congratulated the winners on their meritorious victory. Three hearty cheers were then given by. the assembled bowlers for the winners and file runners-up..
