MENTAL DEFECTIVES

EXPERTS’ SOLUTION OF PROBLEM. SEGREGATION - THE ONLY REMEDY. « United Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON. Jan. 21. Replying to letters published in the Times by eminent physicians and surgeons, who drew attention to the alarming increase in mental defectives, which are mainly hereditary, and advocated legislation to prevent defectives propagating, other eminent doctors, representing the Mental Welfare Association, assert that sterilisation would not touch the problem, because most defectives are born of sound parents, and secondly, sterilisation would produce a serious social evil, especially through the victimisation of defective women and girls. They conclude that segregation is the only remedy that will safeguard both defectives and the community.— Times.
