BIHAND’S TACT GAINS RESPITE
(Received Jan. I,' 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, Dec. 30. M. Briand’s plucky threat to form a Right Wing Ministry if the RadicalSocialists in his Cabinet continued the opposition to M. Doumer’s plans, lias been temporarily successful. Dissentient Ministers have withdrawn their objections. M. Doumer offering to withdraw his proposal for the double turnover tax. He will substitute instead, an extract'dm.trv temporary tax 3800 million francs, which is much the mentary discussion on the Budget bothe same as the turnover tax, but verbal changes enabled the dissentients to save their faces. M. Doumer plans will bring in increased taxation totalling 8,800,000,000 francs. . , M. Briand’s respite lasts at least until January 12, when the' Parliamentary disucssion on the Budget begins.
