Telegraph communication was very much disorganised all day• yesterday. The lines between Wellington, Auckland. Nap er and Gisborne all being affected by the high prevailing winds. Faultmen were kept busy c earing inteiruptions throughout the day. In addition to faults due to w.nd a pole carry.r.g a large number of wires seven miles south of Gisborne, was knocked down by a motor-car. Traffic at 2 p.m. was showing four hours delay.

Interest in the Catholic bazaar has not waned judging by the attendance at the City Hal. last evening. Large numbers of vis tors to the town availed themselves of the opportunity of attending the bazaar, and a most enjoyable time was spent by all. An attractive entertainment was arranged by Mrs. Phil Barry, rcois cal and dancing items being - contributed by Misses Stella Bradfield, Una Fisken, R. Felton, G. Newer, ar.d Master T. Jones. During the evening the draw in the art union for the goid nugget, valued at £lO, resulted in S. Albert, of Mctuhora,' drawing the w lining t’cket. Mrs. G. -Buscke won the guessing competition for the ham, Miss Stark won the competition For a cushion, and Miss E. Buscke won a coat and hat. Good business was done at the Makaraka stab in charge of Mrs. C. D. Parker. The bazaar will he continued to-night.

The Gisborne Scottish Society celebrated “Hodoween” Jastdrtiday night in the City Hall. The Hall was filled to capacity. Mr F. W. Kiach, (Hon. vice-president) in opening the proceedings referred to the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr R. Macduff ’ Birr ell, through ill health, and trusted that he would he soon about again, and Mr J. 31. McLeod, vicepresident, being absent in Napier. Mr Riach welcomed the children from the Creche. The children held the floor until 10 p.m. and had a rare time. Country, dances and games were ‘indulged in, and the “dookin” for apples and the “treacle scones” gave them great delight. • A splendid supper was provided by the Ladies Committee who were untiring in their effort to make the function a success, which they were only able to accomplish through the assistance of members by donations in kind and money, for which the committee wish to thank them. After 10 p.m. the older ones took the floor and a most enjoyable night was brought to a termination at midnight with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. Mr TV. R. McMurray officiated as 31. C., and 3!rs Heeney and Piper AY. Robb supplied the music.
