RECORD TRIP
AUOKLAND~TO~ GISBORNE. TRAVELLING TIME OE 16 HOURS. What is claimed as a. record tr.p from Auckland to Gisborne was made during tho week-end by Air. Bailey, manager of the motor departnien . of John Burns and C 0... Ltd., Auckland. The journey was. made in the latest model Paige car, and in addition to the driver there were two passengers Miss A. Burns (Auckland), and Aliss E. Gadduni, of Gisborne. Speaking yesterday regarding the trip, Air. Balev said that he had never really pushed the car .and that when they arrived in G'sborne they, were net at all t ied with the travelling. The party left Auckland at 9 o’cock on Saturday morning, accomplishing the trip to Hami ton ni 2\ hours. They proceeded to Rotorua on Saturday afternoon, and stopped tliere for ‘he evening, the actual travelling time from Auckland to Rotorua being six hours. The trip from Rotorua to G'sborne, made on Sunday, took ten hours, the roads being fairly good. Air. Bailey said that the worst stretch was in the vicinity of Alatawai. Close to the township the car became stuck in' a deep mndhtile and chains had to he put on in order that .the wheels would grip. Tiie Otoko hill presented no difficulties, the surface being good. The party left Rotorua at 6 a.m.. had breakfast at Te Teko. lunch rt Opot ki, and' arrived in ..Gisborne at 4 p.m. The car which established such a creditable, record is a Paige, or.e of the latest models, and in every way a most luxurious motor. Air. Bai ey, speaking of its capah'l ties- sa d that as a fully qual fiod first class eng neer lie ..was satisfied that it was the best car he had ever Jt was a five-passenger sports model and coil’d, lie said, do 80 miles an hour with ease.
The car is indeed, a beautiful model and is replete with- every possible motor iig convenience. Although t ; he run was" the first made' by that pnrtTular car, the engine went perfect -y 'throughout, not being the least bit overtaxed. The result is apparent’ when a trip 'such as the present is undertaken, for although unused, the engine is in perfect running order, and the eare necessary wth the majority of enables when new. is unnecessary in tiie ease of this car.
The car, which accomplished the. •journey- in such excellent time .wi 1 be used during the week for -dnnonstfating purposes, and those desirious of' inspecting the Paige should arrange' with Redstones’ Motors for a trial spin.* '
