TROUBLE ON MAKO
fibemen-s GRIEVANCES. NAPIER, Oct. 25 Trouble was experienced with the firemen of the Richardson Ho. s steamer Mako during the week-end. On Friday mV lit the lhen refused to take the vessel to sea owing to a member of the crew not being finarcial u ith the union, Another hand was. engaged but still the men refused duty, contending he could not be signedon „fter 5 p.m. On Saturday, hovevei,, the men decided 1 to return to duty but as the vessel was leaving bel berthage she twister her rudder against the wharf. ' An examination was made by a diver and repairs e - fectod to the satisfaction of the Inspector of Machinery, but the men again refused duty, contending that the vessel was unsea worthy. They reviewed the'r decis’on yesterday morning. - and the. vessel, proceeded on,to Auckland under escort of the iangaroa. The latter 'vessel returned to port throe hours later, as the captain considered the Mako quite safe and the escort not further needed.—r.A,
