AWAY WOBBLERS!
PJtEMJER SAYS THEY ARE USELESS TO HIM. TALK WITH HYDRO-ELECTRIC WORKERS, t Special to the TLrnes. ; TE KUITI ; Oct. 24. “! think you can say that when ! have put my hand to the plough I have not turned back”, said the Prime Minister en Saturday, when addressing the men at the big hydro electric works. This observation drew iVera the men hearty applause and Hear Hears. There -is ample evidence that the men at Horahora and Arapuni have great respect for and considerable confidence in Mr Coates, who, as their Ministerial head, has done so much to improve the conditions of the men on construction work. ‘Yes,” continued the prime Min* ister, “once a thing is started it is make or break and l don’t think that, so far, l have broken anything worth talking about. If you want to do things for the country and do them cheaply you have ta have good organisation and good men to do' the work. It says a lot for the men doing the work that we have brought down the cost ot construction by 40 per cent. “It has been said that is all right but we don’t put up the wages. Well the position is that about so per cent, of our men are not the class of men who would work for wages. Mss t of them are on contract, and I don’t care how much they make. It is the price per yard to the' country that counts with ms. You men must remember that, if I am to carry on the work of the country, there is only one thing that will get me there and that is loyal support. (Applause), A lot of wobblers will not help me”
